$19.50 – $28.00
風 林 火 山
“Swift as wind, quiet as forest, fierce as fire, and immovable as a mountain.”
This was the motto of the feudal lord Takeda Shingen, quoted from Sun-tzu. The four characters, in order, are “wind,” “forest,” “fire,” and “mountain.” Individually, they are just a list of nouns, together they connote all the qualities of a great power and presence. Takeda Shingen was the first-born son of Takeda Nobutora (武田信虎), leader of the Takeda clan, and daimyō of the province of Kai. Takeda’s battles with rival warlord Kagetora were dramatized in the 1990 movie Heaven and Earth. Takeda Shingen’s death is fictionalized in Akira Kurosawa’s film Kagemusha.
#yojijukugo #四字熟語 is a Japanese lexeme consisting of four kanji.
