Rachael Yamagata, an American singer-songwriter and pianist, began her musical journey as the vocalist for the Chicago-based band Bumpus. After six years of touring, writing, and recording, she embarked on a solo career in 2001. Yamagata’s distinct style and talent caught the attention of Arista’s Private Music, leading to a two-record deal and the release of her self-titled EP in 2002. Her first full-length album, “Happenstance,” followed in 2004.

Yamagata’s music has been featured on several television shows, and she has collaborated with notable artists such as Jason Mraz, Rhett Miller, Bright Eyes, Ryan Adams, Toots and the Maytals, and Ray Lamontagne. Her contributions extend beyond her solo projects; she was featured on the Grammy-winning album “True Love” by Toots and the Maytals alongside other iconic musicians. Furthermore, she toured with Mandy Moore and contributed a song to Moore’s 2007 album, “Wild Hope”.

She continued to release new music over the years, with her second full-length album, “Elephants…Teeth Sinking Into Heart,” dropping in 2008. The album was characterized as darker and sadder than its predecessor. Her third studio album, “Chesapeake,” was released in 2011, followed by the EP “Heavyweight” in 2012.

In 2022, Yamagata remained active, announcing her “Galactic Trees Tour” and performing at several concerts, including some with Joshua Radin. She also toured Europe as the opening act for Radin’s tour. Her continuous evolution and dedication to her craft have solidified Yamagata’s position as a talented and respected figure in the music industry.
